Major Parks Canada report released.
29 May 2025.
HMS Erebus Underwater Archaeological Surveys 2015 and 2016. By Parks Canada’s Underwater Archaeology Team.
For the 2nd time, Parks Canada is releasing one of their hitherto private archaeology reports.
This one covers the massive 2015 (and 2016) dive season. Stretching over 100 pages of densely packed material, the report covers everything from precise deck plans to individual artifact investigations. This is more like the release of a major book on the Franklin Expedition than a mere report, and represents easily the single largest release of data by Parks Canada in 10 years of work on the wrecks.
Prepare for many hours of reading. Beware that the PDF exceeds 150 MB in size.

New Goodsir sibling photographs identified by Allison Lane. By Logan Zachary.
Allison Lane has likely identified the first known photograph of Harry Goodsir’s sister, Jane Goodsir. It was Jane that believed that the Student’s Manual page given by the Inuit to John Rae had belonged to Harry.
